LOSURS

2004 Board of Directors Candidates

The following members are nominated for election to the LOSURS Board of Directors at the AGM on Sunday, November 7th, 2004:

Bill Brown
Although a member since 1999, Bill only recently moved to Regina on a more permanent basis, but has already proven instrumental in pulling off the 2004 Expo, working tirelessly on the Expo web site, in addition to volunteering at booths and participating in the “Beat the Geeks” competition. Bill would like to contribute more to the group, and feels that being elected to the Board of Directors would enable him to do so.
Bernie Cohen
Bernie has been a long-time member of LOSURS, and a familiar sight at our monthly meetings as well as on the mailing lists. Bernie often contributes good ideas to discussions about the group and about the Expo, and he has now stepped forward to bring those ideas to the board itself.
Doug Machan
Doug's smiling face has been a regular feature of our meetings for some time now, but it was at the first Expo in 2002 that Doug first “threw his hat into the ring of support,” participating in the Expo planning meetings, volunteering at the GIMP booth, and helping out anywhere else he could. Doug was subsequently elected to serve on the LOSURS Board of Directors in 2003, and played an even more active role in the second Expo. Doug would like to continue to serve on the Board of Directors.
Marie Mazur
A member of LOSURS for only about a year, Marie has already contributed a significant amount of hard work to pull of the 2004 Expo, even sticking around to the very end to ensure that the tear-down went smoothly, and that everything ended up where it needed to be. Marie's hard working attitude would be a great asset to the LOSURS Board of Directors.
Scott Mazur
Scott played a very active role in making this year's Expo a reality, taking the initiative to arrange some very significant prizes to be donated, captaining a booth, and generally contributing a very noteworthy quantity of time and energy to all aspects of the event. Scott is also an active contributor to the Open Source community, particularly with the Open Webmail project. He is now interested in contributing further to LOSURS by serving on the Board of Directors.
Mike Warnecke
A LOSURS member for over six years, Mike has made several presentations at our monthly meetings (including most recently a presentation on automating tasks in OpenOffice.org). Mike is the head of IT needs of Audio Warehouse, where he has created numerous solutions based on Open Source software. He has been involved in the organization of both Expos, captaining a booth at the first Expo, and arranging for the impressive 42" plasma TV at the MythTV booth at the second Expo. In his time as a student at the U of R, Mike was actively involved in the CSSS, even serving as CSSS President. It is only natural that Mike now seek election to the LOSURS Board of Directors, to bring his ideas and abilities to contribute to our group.
