As a non-for-profit corporation, LOSURS is required to hold at least one General Meeting every thirteen months. This is the Annual General Meeeting (AGM). Among other business, the AGM includes elections for half of the Board of Directors, and the presenting of the corporation's financial statements for the preceding fiscal year.
Our next AGM is scheduled for Sunday, November 7th, 2004 at 2:30pm in the board room at Access Communications (2250 Park Street).
The agenda for this year's AGM will include the following:
- The current LOSURS Secretary, Mark Humphreys, will present the 2004 Financial Statements for the fiscal year ending September 30th, 2004. In addition to the copy available online, printed copies will be distributed at the AGM.
- An election will be held to select three new the Directors to serve the Corporation. As outlined in our bylaws, only half of the Board of Directors is replaced each year. The list of nominated candidates is available online.
- Discussion of, and possibly votes taken on possible alternate locations for our monthly meetings. Members are encouraged to come equipped with ideas for potential monthly meeting locations.
- A vote will be taken on whether or not to proceed with plans for a 2005 Regina Open Source Expo.
- There will be a proposal to hold a Christmas Charity Fundraiser, to get more involved in our community.
- There is a proposal to have LOSURS members conduct introductory Linux classes in local community centres. These classes could then be listed in the City's activity guide, further raising the profile of both LOSURS and Linux in our community.
- Discussion and vote on whether or not LOSURS should seek membership in organizations such as the Regina Chamber of Commerce, and what the goal of such membership should be.
- There is a proposal to begin encouraging and accepting regular donations from members.
Those members wishing to be nominated for election to the Board of Directors should contact the Secretary, Mark Humphreys, to have their names added to the list. A list of members nominated for election will be distributed at the AGM.
All members are encouraged to attend the AGM. For those of you not able to attend, minutes of the meeting will be distributed afterwards. Doughnuts will likely make an appearance once again!
Information on the 2003 AGM is still available.
